Chandrayaan 2 – Aerospace Engineering

Chandrayaan 2 Mission to South Pole

India’s most challenging mission till today, operation Chandrayaan 2 is finally launched by Indian Space and Research Organization (ISRO) ON 22nd JULY 2019 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. A spacecraft which Launched after 11 years of ISRO’S successful launch of first Lunar mission ‘Chandrayaan 1’, the team of ISRO has after an initial hiccup, finally and successfully launched Chandrayaan 2 with the motive to land on the south pole of the moon on 7th September. With this, Chandrayaan 2 started its 48-day historic journey to where its search for water will start.

The succession of Chandrayaan is just another testament to the growing exploration of space in our current times as well as the increasing commercialization of space through satellite launching and various other commercial space activities. Various private satellite launching companies have successfully proved that with low cost and reusability, satellite launching can be a lucrative and prestigious affair, with only a few competent of achieving such a feat.

As this is a fastest growing industry which is playing a big role in an investment market today, there are number of courses available for every student who wants to study abroad and make their career in Rocket Science, Aerospace engineering, Aircraft Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Astronautical engineering etc. Apart from these courses, various new programs are outshining under Space engineering which aims in encouraging students to make a successful career in this field.

Certain courses specifically designed for space enthusiastic students

Aerospace engineering

Aerospace engineering is a specialized branch of engineering dealing with the development of technology in the field of aviation, space and defense system. It is one of the most challenging areas in the field of engineering. Aerospace engineering in particular, focuses on design of high tech manufacture systems, materials, testing and maintenance. If you have technical, analytical and mechanical skills then Aerospace Engineering is a great course for you.

In U.K, the duration of this course in 1 year. Students who are planning to study Aerospace Engineering in U.K; we have listed some top universities for Aerospace engineering in UK

· University of Nottingham

· University of Leeds

· University of Southampton

· University of Bristol

· University of Glasgow

Germany is also a good option for those who are planning to study Aerospace Engineering. The duration of Aerospace engineering course in Germany will be 2 years. Top universities are-

· Bremen University of Applied Science

· RWTH Aachen University

· Technical university of Applied Science Wildau

· Technical University of Brunswick

· Dresden University of Technology (TU Dresden)

United States is also a great option for aerospace engineering. Top Universities are-

· Clarkson University

· California Institute of Technology

· Fulton School of Engineering

Aerospace Engineering is further divided into 2 different courses which are-

· Aeronautical Engineering

Earlier, Aerospace engineering used to be known asAeronautical Engineeringbut with advancement and development technology include craft opening in outer space the term was replaced to ‘Aerospace Engineering’. Aeronautical engineering majorly deals in missiles, aircrafts and helicopters. They focus on the design of aircraft, propulsion systems and the aerodynamic performance of aircraft and construction equipment. They work with the flight in the world’s atmosphere in theory, technology and practice.

· Astronautical Engineering

Subpart of Aerospace Engineering,Astronautical Engineeringmajorly deals in Rockets, space shuttles and space stations i.e. operating aircrafts outside the Earth. This type of engineering include work with small satellites like cube saturations or traditional large satellites.

In the design of airplane and satellite, both aeronautical and astronautic technicians experience distinct problems for environment and operations. But these two areas merge a lot as they both rely on fundamental physics.

Students after completing their academic program can apply for recruitment in various commercial satellite launching companies who with their new technologies and missions are setting their foot in Future’s most demanding career.

Commercial Satellite launching companies

1.    Space X

Software engineer turned rocket scientist, Elon Musk founded Space X in the year 2002 it is a leading U.S aerospace manufacturer and commercial space transportation company. Space X with their main headquarters in California launched 21 rockets in 2018. It is currently pioneering the way in commercial space technology.

2.     Blue Origin

Blue Origin, founded in 2000 by Jeff Bezos, is a privately-funded aerospace manufacturer. The owner of Amazon and Blue origin spent 3 billion in a year on Blue Origin and currently intensifying the race for dominating commercial space exploration.

3.     I.S.R.O

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is the Indian Government’s space agency established in 1969 with the motive to encourage and develop the Indian space program. ISRO has a national network of facilities.
