The Environmental Assessment officer with the Nunatsiavut Government admits early partial results from an environmental study following a diesel fuel spill in Postville, Labrador in 2020 left them with more questions than answers.
Frederic Dwyer Samuel says the study found some diesel-related compounds in black guillemot eggs harvested near Postville in both 2020 and 2021 as well as eggs harvested near Nain last year.
He says they’re in talks with Health Canada to see if the results should result in any advisories on the consumption of the eggs. In the meantime, they wanted people to be aware of their findings so they can make up their own minds about whether or not to consume the eggs.
